Merseyside's three indoor climbing options for families split into two Climbing Hangar sites and one Clip 'n Climb, and the difference is less about location than about what you want the visit to be. Two are in Liverpool proper, one is out in Garston.

The Climbing Hangar Liverpool North is the one to book if you simply want to turn up and boulder together. It takes children from age 4, though our verdict is that it works best from about seven, when parents and kids can climb side by side across a range that runs from kids walls to comp-style routes. Reviewers mention friendly staff, free shoe rental, a beginner induction on arrival, and coffee that is genuinely worth stopping for. Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult during the session. Parking is free and it is pram friendly with baby change.

The Climbing Hangar Liverpool South in Garston is a different proposition: it is a coaching environment rather than a drop-in centre. Rock Club takes children from age 5 and coaches track progress week to week, and reviewers describe it as inclusive for children with mobility challenges, who are actively accommodated if you speak to staff when booking. Adults get Women Rock sessions and a full weights section. Reviews suggest visiting off-peak for quieter walls.

Clip 'n Climb Liverpool is the party and confidence venue. It suits ages 4 and up, strongest from around 6, and reviews single out staff who personalise challenges by name and an exclusive party room with no restrictions on your own decorations, food or music. SEN families can book dedicated low-stimulation sessions with exclusive venue access. Expect some queuing between walls at peak times.
