Edinburgh Zoo

“Edinburgh Zoo is without a doubt, excellent. If you live local, it’s absolutely worth becoming a member as it’s a fantastic day out whether solo or with others. Opening times vary between colder and warmer months, so you’ll certainly see some animals more than others on your visit(s) but I’m not going in winter to see the tigers and lions. Be smart about it - check out the sick penguins in winter, watch the big beautiful cats sunbathe in the summer. Don’t be disheartened if they’re not always around! There’s plenty to see from the largest of bears to the wee beasties section which is becoming a favourite of mine. There’s nothing funnier than walking to see the zebras and giraffes and hearing the baboons go mental at each other from some distance. We recently did a penguin Magic moment experience and the keeper, Paige, was absolutely delightful and so informative and passionate. The penguins are such funny little characters and Paige kept us right the whole time, making our Valentines weekend extra special. I highly recommend if it’s a one time visit or any of the keeper experiences! PSA don’t listen to the bad reviews that say it’s not good. They haven’t a clue what they’re on about.”

“We had the best time at this zoo. I was expecting it to be tiring (it was) but I wasn’t expecting it to be so engaging! I’d read a few reviews that said it wouldn’t take long to go around, but we booked the first tickets (10am) and could have quite happily stayed later than 4pm. Staff were all brilliant, the food was great in The Gannet and the animals all seemed happy. It was really nice to see the chimps taking part in the voluntary research too.”

“A great evening out for the kids. The trail is well-organized, and the interactive element (like the stepping piano) were a big hit. Just a heads-up: it’s quite steep in parts, so wear comfortable shoes and wrap up warm. Note that you won't see the actual zoo animals as they're asleep, but the lanterns are the stars anyway. Parking can be tight, so try to arrive exactly for your slot. Loved every part of it specially the Giant Crab and Whale.”
