Within it, Dartmouth Park Pavilion Child Play Area is the pick for children under 3, with a sandpit scaled to toddlers and a summer splash pad that reviewers say holds attention for two hours or more, with toilets in the pavilion next door. Dartmouth Park Main Play Area covers a wider age spread with more varied equipment, though its splash area does not always run, and it gets busier once older children arrive after school.

The two Sandwell Valley options ask for more time. Sandwell park runs to 660 acres with two farms, one Victorian and educational, the other more about open fields and woodland, and reviewers single out Priory Woods on the east side of the M5. Sandwell Valley Adventure Playground is free, clean and close to the motorway, but reviewers note missing or broken equipment and heavy summer crowds, and sections close without warning.

Jesson Park is the outlier: two full-sized football pitches, tarmac courts for five-a-side, open ground for kites and conkers in autumn, but no cafe, toilets or gym equipment, so it suits school-age groups who bring their own ball and snacks.
