The Cinema at Selfridges

“This is the kind of place that makes going to the cinema feel special again. Just when Oxford Street is slowly declining, Selfridges steps up with one of the best cinemas in London. Pros: • Fun and eclectic decor designed to appeal to cinephiles. • Doors show not only “Programme start time”, but also the specific “Film Start” and “Film End” times. • Seats are incredibly comfortable and recline a long way back for comfort. Front row gets footstools. Cons: • Screens are not very big, but then they never are at independent cinemas and it doesn’t spoil the experience. • Sound was definitely a touch quiet. Usually the “Dolby Atmos” promo makes your body vibrate, not here. Three screens in all: screen one has 70 seats, screen two 59 seats, and screen three a mere 28 seats. Tickets are £20 (except before 4pm Monday to Thursday when they are £15), reasonable for a premium experience. You can access the cinema either from within Selfridges or via its own dedicated street entrance (and steps down to the basement level). “From the moment we walked in we received a very warm and friendly welcome from the staff. We sat and sipped cocktails whilst a beautiful string quartet played classic movie themes. The auditorium is small with very comfortable reclining plush red seats. With extra-wide armrests and a very handy side table. The sound quality is second to none. I'd booked this as part of my best friend's birthday surprise. What a fantastic experience. I can't wait to come back 5star + returned yesterday and had another enjoyable time. “I took my friend there for an afternoon screening but didn’t realise I had the dates wrong. The general manager (I can’t remember his name but I had spoken with him a few times before), went above and beyond and somehow managed to put the film on for us in one of the screens. This completely saved my day as my friend had come all the way from Kent to see that film with me. As a longtime Selfridges customer I couldn’t be happier with the quality of the service and how well we were looked after.”
