“An excellent museum of more recent railway trains. Go back to the 1970s and go in the APT (Advanced Passenger Train). This was the prototype of other fast modern trains (the Pendolino for example). You can sit in the driving seat of a number of fairly recent diesel and electric locomotives. Signaling is the core of railway travel and there are signal boxes of various generations to watch operate (or operate yourself). Some fine model railways compete the experience. It suits young and not so young railway enthusiasts.”

“Spent a couple of hours here on a Sunday afternoon with a young train mad kid who has ADHD and he loved it. He really enjoyed the interactive aspect and liked getting on the trains and into the signal boxes (as did I.)The staff were very patient and friendly. You can ride the little train around the site. You can also get a hot drink. Concessions for carers and children. It’s seasonal and closed for the darker months. Will return in the spring.”

“If you love memories of the British Railway Travel and Systems this is the place to go! The staff are really friendly and helpful, they have a functional signal box with amazing assistants to guide you on how to use them and learn about them. Also it's the home of the APT-P which you can get into the cab of. And also a lovely example of freightliner class 90. A must see if your passing Crewe!”

Overview
Crewe Heritage Centre preserves a working collection of railway history anchored by the APT-P Advanced Passenger Train, the prototype of the modern Pendolino. Visitors can walk through the APT from first class through buffet to cab, sit in diesel and electric locomotive driving seats, and operate a live functional signal box with volunteer guidance. The miniature railway runs circuits of the outdoor grounds. Traditional games, a gift shop, hot drinks and an outdoor picnic area complete the site.
